something really weird going on...

something really weird going on...

Postby Dutch78 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 5:06 pm

hey guys,

so i've build a couple of ANS stores and one of them is showing some really weird behaviour. It's a small store based upon a single electronic device but lately, when i look through the statistics, i see a lot of items being visited that shouldn't even be on my site, items totally unrelated to my niche. For instance, i saw today that i sold an anatomy book (?) through my site. I'm not complaining because it costs almost $200 but i see a lot of unrelated searches and weird items being visited. When i searched google for the anatomy book my site was nowhere to be found so i have no idea how someone got on my site. Also, when i search for a weird item i can't even find it on my site, i can only see it if i click on the entry url in statistics.

Also, 2 "disturbing" things: Cache grows extremely fast compared to my other stores, it's usually around 1000mb after 1 day and what really concernes me that when i look at recent activity on the admin home page i see someone else then me logged in?!? This could be a bug perhaps.

Is there anyone else who recognizes any of this??

unrelated items are just items that may show up on the related items or best seller side boxes and if the user continues to browse amazon and add other items to their basket before they checkout :)

reason why your cache is growing is your more than likely getting a lot of hits/visitors browsing the site.

Try to search in google:
----------
"site:yourdomain.com product name"
----------
without quotes.

You will find where google have found this "product name" on your site.

And of course you should install Google Analytics to have full statistics about your site.
(traffic sources, visited pages etc.)

Signup at https://www.google.com/analytics/
Add your site and enter your Google Analytics "Web Property ID". Example (UA-1234567-1)
to the field: "Enable Google Analytics?"
in "Advances Settings" section.

you should set up a cron job to reduce the cache size of your site. It'll maintain the cache of you site daily.

i allready have google analytics (see nothing out of the ordinary) and also a cron job that cleares the cache twice a day.

admin, when i use the suggested search is just see the urls of my site in google..........and it doesn't matter what i enter after "site:<mysite>" it always appears in google........it almost seems if all of amazon products are available on my site

yesterday i sold a bodybuilding supplement, some baby stuff and health student book..........i'm not complaining but it's really weird

Is google always shows home page of your site if you are searching for
"site:<yoursite> any product" or different pages ?
Try to click "Cached" link near your search result, maybe google see on your site what visitors can't see.

But maybe your Amazon ID is used on some other site (maybe not your) and you are getting sales not from this site...

in order to fully get rid of the ebay crap you have to remove the php code from product.tpl in the template get that ebay crap off your site I lost a crap load of sales to ebay before I removed it
