separate upgrade installer?

separate upgrade installer?

Postby Dutch78 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 8:20 am

hi, i have a future request.

I have a lot of ANS stores and everytime a new update is available any customizations have to be saves before upgrading (like customized files for the logo), the complete ANS store/files have to be uploaded, after upgrade the customized files have to be placed back again. This is very time consuming so i'm wondering if you could create 2 versions whenever there is a new update, 1 with the complete ANS package and 1 with only the updated files.

For example:

- new install or upgrade from old version like 2.0 to 3.11.133: complete ANS
- update from 3.1 to 3.1.133: only the updated files.

i don't know of this is technically possible but it would save me a lot of time.

Hello Dutch78,
I can not do this because:
1. When you upgrade script You pass it through ftp and deleting all files that were there.
2. Some users customize not only, not just a logo, but also patterns. And if we do not replace their templates, they will not even know that there are new opportunities (like "Static pages" or "Banners").

You can do it self, manually. But You risk not see any changes that relate to appearance.

i'm not exactly sure what you mean.

There are about 1300+ files in ANS, i just want to upload the files that were updated from the previous version, not all 1300+

I can do it myself by running them through a tool and select all files that are a different size from previous version. Then upload only the new files and run upgrade.php, this should work right?

Hello Dutch78
You can do better. Create a new template, in new folder, then when updating script, yours template remain unchanged.
