It would be nice if there were a completely separate template file for the homepage rather than using category.tpl.

I'm working on a custom template and don't want the homepage to look just like a category page.

I've been able to modify the category.tpl file to show different content for the homepage but It's sort of a dirty work around.

It was strange you just posted that because it was a change I made last night for the upcoming version.

The homepage can potentially use either product.tpl or category.tpl (depending on your homepage settings)

I have now added a check on the homepage, it will look for category-home.tpl or product-home.tpl and use those if they exist, instead of the regular tpl files.

So to seperate your homepage from categories you would just copy category.tpl to category-home.tpl
